You do not need a culinary degree to make something that tastes like it took all day. You just need patience and three simple ingredients that probably already live in your pantry.
Şokoleta is that rare dessert which bridges the gap between a quick fix and a genuine treat. It is soft. It is chocolatey. And it comes together in under 30 minutes.
This is not about intricate piping or tempering chocolate. It is about stirring. It is about patience. It is about having a solution when the doorbell rings unexpectedly or when the kids come home hungry before dinner.
Here is exactly how to make it without the stress.
The Ingredient List
You need to measure carefully here. The ratio of liquid to dry ingredients determines whether you get a pudding or a soup.
- 3.5 cups of water
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 50 grams of butter or margarine
- 25 grams of cocoa powder
- 1 egg yolk (save the white for an omelet)
- 1 cup of milk
That is it. No vanilla extract. No flour. No cream. Just sugar, water, cocoa, and fat.
Step-by-Step Preparation
Start with a clean pot. Add the sugar and the 3.5 cups of water. Turn the heat to medium-high. You want this to boil. Do not walk away.
Once the water is bubbling, drop in 2 packs of chocolate-flavored biscuits. Yes, the cheap kind. No need for premium cookies here. They will disintegrate. Let them soak.
Stir the mixture. The biscuits will break down into a thick slurry. Add the 50 grams of butter or margarine now. Let it melt completely into the sugary chocolate mixture.
Here is the trick.
When the butter is gone and the biscuits are mush, turn off the heat. Now add the 25 grams of cocoa powder. Do not add it while the pot is on the flame. Cocoa burns easily. Off the heat, stir it in until smooth.
Let the mixture cool.
This is the hardest part for impatient cooks. You must let it cool down to room temperature. If you skip this, the next step will ruin everything.
While it cools, stir occasionally. This prevents a skin from forming on top. A skin is annoying. It creates lumps. Keep stirring.
Once the mixture is lukewarm, not hot, add the single egg yolk.
Whisk it in vigorously. The yolk acts as a thickener and adds richness. If the mixture looks too thick at this stage, add a splash of water. If it looks too thin, you have over-stirred or used too much water earlier. You are stuck with it, but it will still taste fine.
Now, portion it out.
Spoon the chocolate mixture into small ramekins or even just regular cereal bowls. You do not need fancy serving dishes.
Place them in the refrigerator.
Let them set. This takes about an hour, depending on your fridge. The texture changes as it chills. It becomes firmer. More like a mousse.
