Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former staunch ally of Donald Trump, alleges the former president personally pressured her and other Republican lawmakers to halt efforts to force the release of Jeffrey Epstein’s unsealed documents. Greene claims Trump warned her that powerful individuals would suffer consequences if she persisted in pushing for full transparency.
White House Pressure Campaign
According to Greene, the White House and Speaker Mike Johnson spent months lobbying her and three other Republicans – Thomas Massie, Lauren Boebert, and Nancy Mace – to withdraw their support for a discharge petition aimed at compelling a vote on releasing the Epstein files. Greene describes this pressure as a direct attempt to suppress information that could implicate high-profile figures.
“We’re talking about the Epstein files… the ultimate way to expose a criminal cabal of rich, powerful elites that I believe control everything.”
Greene expressed confusion over Trump’s opposition to transparency, given his public stance that he had no involvement with Epstein. She detailed how the White House employed various tactics, including bringing Boebert into a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) for an undisclosed meeting and relentlessly attacking Massie in the media.
Trump’s Direct Threat
The most damning revelation is Greene’s account of a phone call with Trump in September. She claims he berated her for supporting the discharge petition, yelling that “my friends will get hurt” if the files were released. This threat, according to Greene, was explicit and intended to intimidate her into backing down.
The Stakes of Transparency
Greene believes the Epstein files contain names of numerous billionaires, heads of state, and influential figures like Larry Summers and Peter Thiel. She suggests that these individuals have a vested interest in keeping the documents sealed to protect their reputations and power.
The White House has not yet commented on Greene’s allegations. However, her claims raise serious questions about the extent to which Trump and his allies may have actively worked to suppress information related to Epstein’s crimes. The incident underscores the lengths to which elites may go to conceal their connections to a notorious sex predator and the powerful network surrounding him.
The revelation highlights how even within the Trump-aligned circles, the pursuit of transparency can face strong resistance from those with something to hide. This underscores the need for continued scrutiny of the Epstein case and the individuals implicated within its records.
